![]() INTRODUCTION It is a fender stratocaster Mexican standard left handed (Figure 1) made on May 27, 1999 as evidenced by the date on the body and pickguard (Figure 2). It was bought used and his state shows its daily use ! By dismantling the guitar up to the last screw (Figure 1), we realize the restoration work to be done: - The electronic cavities and tremolo's hole have a finishing plant leaves to be desired. In addition a sort of sticky white powder is mixed with varnish (Figure 3). The body will be cleaned and polished. - The standard microphones provide a flat sound, not very good. Indeed, there are pickups with 6 steel plots, connected by two ordinary magnets (Figure 4). The microphones will be replaced by other much better. - The electronic standard will be rebuilt and improved with better quality components and welded with "vintage" cloth wire isolated by a braid of waxed cotton (wire used in the 50s). - The capacitor tone which is a standard ceramic capacitor (and therefore inappropriate for this type of use) will be replaced by a paper in oil capacitor (one of the best kind of capacitor for use in audio application). - The neck is in good condition, it is not twisted. But the frets are all worn, flat and are buzzing strings when playing (Figure 5). The neck will be refretted ! - The screws are rusty, will be replaced (Figure 6 to 9). - The body of vibrato, marked by pontets will be restored (Figure 9 to 15). - The electronic cavities will be shielded. SHIELDING OF THE ELECTONIC CAVITIES
First stage was to shield electronic cavities. To begin, we clean well the cavities with a cloth and abrasive paper, to remove all white sticky powder. Then we cover the cavities with metal foil (adhesive aluminium tape here). More details here : Shield Electronic Cavities (Aluminium Adhesive) Intro | Shielding | ↑ Top |
